Volunteer Opportunities

    homeless shelter
Founded in the 1984, in cooperation with The Partnership for the Homeless, MABC runs a shelter for the homeless on Friday and Saturday nights during the month of September through June. Our Guests are pre-screened by Peter’s Place, a division of The Partnership for the Homeless, where they receive counseling, job training and assistance in obtaining housing.

Our volunteers (a minimum of two per evening) arrive at 7:30 pm and sleep in the Shelter (separate, secured sleeping quarters and security provided). The Overnight Host prepares coffee in the morning and sees the Guests off at 6:15 am. You may volunteer for the Shelter by contacting Melvin Bell (862)202-1631 or by email.

    meals for the elderly
Since 1982, MABC, in cooperation with Marble Collegiate Church and the Sai Baba group, provide hot lunches to the elderly on the first and third Sunday of each month.

    MABC goes green!
MABC has made a number of efforts in the past several years to make its buildings, worship, and operations green.  For example, we now recycle all bulletins and papers, use energy efficient light bulbs and buy environmentally friendly cleaning supplies.  We encourage everyone to do the same!

Sunday School

putting the "un" in Sunday

Sunday School at Madison Avenue Baptist Church is not your traditional Sunday School.   Our Sunday School was previously named “Sunday School Uncut,” but then we realized we are not only “uncut” but we are also unconventional, untraditional, uncanny, unedited, and unlimited.  The point is: Sunday School at MABC is all about being the “un” in Sunday.  While we have currently settled for a traditional title on the surface, please don’t show up expecting anything other than the “un.”  Take a look at our write-up in The Messenger for current class details and information.  Join us on Sundays at 10AM on the fourth floor of the Parish House in the International Room of Lorimer Hall.  All ages are welcome.

"Team MABC"
Join our own Lance Bivians, massage therapist and meditation leader, in an hour of centering prayer and conversation.  The group meets every Thursday at 7:00 p.m., Lorimer Hall, in the Parish House (30 East 31st Street).  All are welcome.  Click here for a brochure.
